Health benefits of Raw Apple Cider Vinegar

Clear vinegar has none of the benefits of raw organic apple cider vinegar. Through its processing and distilling, it’s been stripped of everything beneficial and can be detrimental to your health due to the fact that it is dead instead of alive.

Only raw and unpasteurised organic apple cider vinegar has the “mother of vinegar” that makes the vinegar so beneficial. The “mother” is made up living nutrients and bacteria. You can actually see it settled in the bottom of the bottle like sediment.

Raw Organic Apple Cider Vinegar (wonder drug) has the following health benefits:

– contains pectin – regulates blood pressure and reduces bad cholestrol

– potassium – prevents brittle teeth, strengthens hair and stops runny nose

– beta carotene – helps in countering damage caused by free radicals, helping one maintain firmer skin and a youthful appearance

– acetic acid – this acid slows the digestion of starch which can help to lower the rise in glucose that commonly occurs after meals

– 1 tspn of raw apple cider vinegar after meals helps reducing heartburn and improves bowel movement

– helps reducing joint pain and stiffness

– helps to break down fats so that your body can use them rather than store them. For this reason, many diets include ACV in their regimen.

How to have it – You need to make sure that you use only the natural, organic variety of apple cider vinegar; the sparkling clear variety will have practically no health benefits. The best way to have this vinegar is first thing in the morning. You can mix two tablespoons each of apple cider vinegar and honey in a glass of water, and drink it. This solution may taste slightly acidic, and may not seem to be the best way to start your morning, but once you know of the immense benefits that follow, it will not feel all that bad.

Motivating Mondays

On A Healthy Note

Tough times don’t last but tough people do…

To laugh is to risk appearing the fool.
To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.
To reach out for another is to risk involvement.
To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self.
To place your ideas, your dreams, before a crowd is to risk their loss.
To love is to risk not being loved in return.
To live is to risk dying.
To hope is to risk despair.
To try is to risk failure.

(Author unknown)

Well, big words you would say. However, little impact when you are down in the dumps. When I begun to write this piece, I had no idea how to make even a small difference in your life. But then a veil lifted and words just started flowing.

Wise men who have studied success for more than 50 years concluded that the greatest success principle of all is, “Learn from the experts.” So I looked up into the minds of a plethora of experts who scripted a million or more articles on this subject. The more I read the more I thought, the more I thought the more the picture became clearer.

Life has a way of happening in the weirdest of ways possible – job, family, weight gain, skin issues, bloating, pot bellies, kids and managing them, ageing, husband or wife (whatever applies), in-laws, too many demands on us from all sides possible. And we don’t even realize, how life slips by.

So here comes handy a few friendly recommendations (very scientific ;) ) from your Good Health Partner, that’s Enjoy them and you will do so much better if you try to apply them.

1. Always remain open to new learnings

Sometimes, we might come across new things and possibilities. Don’t be rigid and put them down. See whether it has merit and whether it can help you in achieving your goal which is to make your life better. And the lives of those you love and care for. Isn’t that what we all want?

So keep your eyes and ears open and flexible, learn new things and explore new possibilities. You will realize life has so much more to offer and is that much more rewarding.

2. Talk to yourself instead of letting yourself talk to you

Remember …. “Success comes in “CANI” – Constant and Never Ending Improvement ….. of life, visions, values, self…..

Yes I can shed the extra 20 kilos I accumulated over two years.

I can skip a meal. Try a ‘fruit day’, a ‘milk day’, a ‘juice day’, a ‘porridge day’ and why not…A PIZZA DAY. Sometimes, you might let loose but don’t let that deter you. There is always room for improvement, if you allow it. See how you can make your life better in every way. Take different aspects of your life – health, love, career, family, finances – see how you can make them better. And small improvements, over time, make a giant difference to the quality of your life

3. Smile, under all circumstances.

“Success is a journey, not a destination.” There are many reasons to fail, there are far more reasons to succeed. You may fail at one of your goals, get up, dust yourself off and try again. Always be focused on the big picture. The trick is to not give up, but get up and go forward in the face of adversity. Remember, there is always a new day and a fresh beginning.

As the saying goes… “Once you make a decision, the world conspires to make it happen.”

Healthy-sounding drinks marketed to kids have too much sugar

A new finding from Yale University has suggested that drinks marketed by beverage companies as healthy for kids, often have little healthy properties and are in fact loaded with sugar, calories and junk chemicals. The researchers looked at the ingredients of about 600 drinks made by 14 companies. These drinks included sodas, fruit drinks, energy drinks, sport drinks, flavored waters, iced teas and also diet fruit drinks and diet energy drinks.

What they found out was quite astonishing. Many of the energy and fruit drinks for kids have as much sugar and calories as regular sodas. In fact, some of these had as much sugar as a 8 year old child should consume in a day.

The report stated that drinking just an 8-ounce sugar loaded drink everyday increases the risk of child becoming obese by 60%. The report further stated that soft drinks and sugary drinks biggest source of calories for teens and the No.1 source of added sugar in our diets. Parents believe that just because these are marketed to kids, they are healthy. But the reality is very different. A lot of the diet drinks had artificial sweeteners added to them, carefully disguised under their chemical names.

This just shows the extent of faulty marketing going on in the food industry. Products are touted to be healthy when in fact they are full of unhealthy ingredients. It would serve you good to see the ingredient labels for everything that you buy. You should read the fine print. If you see ingredients in it, that you can’t pronounce, you definitely don’t want it in your body or your child’s body.

Healthy Eating has long term benefits !

Every Friday, we will try to bring the latest health news to you in a few lines, to get you up to date with what’s going on all around the world – the latest research, discovery, trial, scandal or joke going on in the health and wellness area.

Here is the dope this week:

Healthy Childhood Diet may Lower Chronic Disease Risk

A study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (JCEM), a publication of The Endrocrine Society, says that a diet higher in fiber content, with modest reductions in fat during childhood and adolescence may have positive effects later on by decreasing risk for chronic lifestyle diseases like diabetes and heart disease in adulthood. This was a controlled clinical trial in which dietary fiber was increased through consumption of more fruits, vegetables and whole grains and dietary fat intake was limited to 28% of total caloric intake.

It must be noted that a diet high in total refined fat and refined grains is typically associated with an increased risk of metabolic syndrome – a lifestyle condition leading to low levels of good cholesterol, high blood pressure, higher levels of triglycerides and blood sugar and eventually obesity. This is the precursor to heart disease.

Yoga helps Women with Back Pain

British Researchers have found that practicing Yoga helps women with chronic and consistent back pain to manage their condition and improves back function. A similar result was reported by a U.S. Investigation published by researchers at the University of Washington. That study said yoga shows definite short term and long term improvement in those suffering from back pain, without any side effects. It was noted that yoga had better chances of improving back function than the conventional back pain treatment of medication and chiropractic treatment.

Yoga is thus a very credible treatment option for back pain sufferers, leading to improvement in the quality of lives of people limited by their pain.

Every Friday, we will try to bring the latest health news to you in a few lines, to get you up to date with what’s going on all around the world – the latest research, discovery, trial, scandal or joke going on in the health and wellness area.

Here is the dope this week:

Teen Violence linked to soda consumption

Researchers in USA have found a shocking association between violence among teenagers and the amount of soda they consumed. The study found out that students who drank more than 5 cans of soft drinks every week, were 9-15% more likely to engage in violent acts, compared to their friends, who drank less. The magnitude of this link, is similar to the link previous researchers have found in alcohol or tobacco to violence. While this is a very preliminary study, what it tries to establish is profound as a lot of us regularly drink soda without even giving a second thought to what might be in it.

Genetic Make-up of Human Brain cells changes during a lifetime

In what could have a significant impact on brain and neurological diseases like brain tumours, alzheimers, etc, scientists  from The Roslin Institute, at the University of Edinburgh have discovered that during the lifetime of an individual, brain cells change their genetic make-up. So far, there has been a belief that the genes of the brain cells remain static all through our lifetime. This research totally overturns that belief and is a step in the other direction to understand on how brain cells function and regenerate, how our memory formation is linked to our genes and how that might be linked to the development of diseases.

Welcome to OnAHealthyNote Blog

Hi Friends,

A very warm welcome and thank you so much for stopping by and reading the 1st post of

Just like all kids have a gleam in their eyes, we at are excited and a bit anxious that finally our dream is turning into reality. For the last year or so, we have been working to get this off the ground and today is the day. Thank you for being a part of our happiness. We promise to spread a lot of cheers around! J

OAHN has been started with a mission. To help people lead healthier lives. To make healthy eating simpler and easier. To help people get the mojo back in their lives. We believe we are much more than just about health. We are about a lifestyle, an attitude. The attitude of being the best that all of us can be – not just in our bodies, but through the way we love, laugh, help, care and live.

While you will get enough information on health and relevant topics through our article section on the website, this is the place where we will open our hearts out and talk about the other things that complete our lives. Coz even though we are what we eat (Yes, we truly believe that!), we are also much more than that – we are how we love, laugh and live. The physical energy in our bodies is derived not just from food, but also from our relationships, our work, our happiness as also from our state of being. Here is an article on “Holistic Living” that you will find very interesting.

Lets start with the basics. Our biggest asset is our health. If you do not believe me, ask the person who has been given a month to live, ask a child who wants to play but is tied to his wheelchair, ask the man who is not able to support his family because of his illness. It’s in times like these that the value of health comes through. When we hear of a sick person succumbing to death or of a sudden demise, don’t we find ourselves silently promising to take better care of ourselves and those we love? And then what happens to that promise? Our daily life gets the better of it, somehow. Despite all well meaning intentions.

Now don’t get me wrong here. I am not trying to paint a picture of gloom and doom or trying to scare you off. I am just trying to emphasize on how our life is so precious. But more than that, it’s the quality of our lives that’s important. Unfortunately, but truly, most people these days are dealing with quality of life issues. Most people today are having more and more health issues, small or big, bearable or nagging, that affects the quality of their lives. If not now, soon. But for sure, it catches up.

What we are trying to do here is give you information and resources that will put the control to the quality of your life back in your hands. While this might be of interest to you, its something very serious for us. Its our mission. And we take it rather seriously. We want to give you access to resources that will help you distinguish the facts from the fiction and the myths from the reality. We also want to lay before you, different ways to get your life healthier and improve the quality of your life, that of your loved ones – parents, spouse, children, friends. We want you all to know that while life happens, we do have control over the quality of our life and this control is derived from the CHOICES that we make, in the here and now. More about that later.

Please take a look at our website, the different resources that you have, browse through a few of our articles and let us know how you like it all. Your feedback is highly appreciated and solicited with open hearts. We will also appreciate it if you would sign up on our website for a regular dose of health nuggets and tit bits from us. Remember, our choices determine the quality of our lives. Stay Tuned!
